Dom Goring

I started my working life back in 1985 on a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) for a company called Plessey Microsystems.

This led to an apprenticeship where I also studied at Northampton College (the old University site at St Georges Avenue).

Once qualified I was placed in the Test department that was then called Radstone Technology. I spent a number of years in the department fault finding down to component level on a range of circuit boards and systems for the military market.

I left the business for a small time, but was then offered a position as the Manager in the Test department. Soon after I became the Manager of the complete Production area in the facility. We were then taken over by the large American business General Electric (GE). I continued doing this for a further 10 years.

I am now looking after our customers in the Returns area where we deal with mainly Large American business with platforms in the major forces of the US military.

I became involved with the NETP around 12 years ago when my then HR Manager Peter Orton asked me to come along to a meeting. We were already having students on what was then 3 month placements.

I have loved being part of the scheme and seeing it grow to where it is now. Our business has employed 8 former students of the NETP over the years. It has been great to see them progress through the business, or move on to bigger and better careers. It really is an amazing platform for you and your future careers.
