High performance cars on display during the Force India event

The NETP University team attended an event at Silverstone in the week leading up to the British Grand Prix. Hosted by Force India speakers from Industry discussed engineering supply and opportunities associated with the fast moving world of motor sport. The importance of links between academia and industry were considered in several of the talks which made this event particularly interesting regards the vision and future of the NETP.

Dan and Steve made contacts with regional companies which offer specialised products to the engineering sector. Companies were not only interested in the NETP as a scheme, but also offered to visit the University and deliver talks about their products and process which could be embedded in present modules. One of the companies produce unique components by 3D metal printing and sintering of stainless steel particles that cannot be produced by any other manufacturing process. See Picture 2 below. Another company specialise in carbon fibre products and again offered to talk to students about their processes and products.

It is intended that the University Team target several of this type of event throughout each year with the aim of increasing awareness of the NETP, recruitment of potential partners and students and to form links with industry that can feed into the delivery of our courses.
